Reproductive Health and Privacy Protection Act: S.5829

With ink barely dry on the Supreme Court PBA decision, Governor Spitzer submitted his Program Bill #16.  He claimed the U.S. Supreme Court decision threatens a womans right to choose and her privacy.  Governor Spitzer said his bill was designed to enshrine a womans fundamental right to make reproductive health decisions   Sadly, the bill would:

On May 14th, the Senate Rules Committee introduced S.5829 and referred it to the Senate Health Committee.  Senate voting has not yet been done.  Introduction in the pro-abortion majority Assembly has not yet occurred but will be done easily when the Assembly is reconvened.

This measure contradicts the will of a majority of people.  In an April, 2007, nationwide NY Times/CBS News poll, 64% of those polled responded that abortion should either have stricter limits or be prohibited.

Contact your elected NYS representatives if you disagree with this bill.  You can contact their offices in Albany via mail, e-mail, phone or fax, or through their websites.  You could also go to see them or call their local offices while they are home this summer.
