Maternal-Fetal Medicine - a different specialty
Have you ever heard of a doctor who specializes in Maternal-Fetal Medicine?
The website of Pro-Life Maternal-Fetal Medicine , www.prolifemfm.org, describes Maternal-Fetal Medicine this way:
Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) is a subspecialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology dealing with all matters that can affect the health of a mother or fetus from before conception to the postpartum period. Physicians who practice Maternal-Fetal Medicine are obstetrician/gynecologists who have received additional training, and performed research, in the care and management of pregnant women and fetuses.
Unfortunately, not all Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists are pro-life. It is therefore still the task of a pro-life woman to research the stance of a given doctor in order to be able to evaluate the advice she might be given.
Dr. Mary Davenport, in her article Is Late-term Abortion Ever Necessary? references the pro-life sub-group, the one whose website is listed, saying, These superbly qualified physicians are eager to help women who have been advised to undergo an abortion for medical reasons or fetal birth defects. They list one such specialist in New York State, with a practice in Buffalo.
It is worth noting, however, that there are pro-life obstetrician/gynecologists in the Rochester area who can help. If you are in need such a physician, please call the Rochester Area Right to Life office at (585) 621-4690 and we will furnish a referral.
