Pelosi asked to oppose egg donation
Want to know how bad an idea it is for women to provide eggs for research? Its bad enough to get women who call themselves pro-life and pro-choice feminists to band together to oppose the practice. Their organization is called Hands Off Our Ovaries.
You can read their statements yourself on their website www.handsoffourovaries.com.
Their press release section (http://handsoffourovaries.com/blog/category/press-releases) contains a letter that was sent to Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House, to ask that she refrain from seeking enabling legislation or funding for cloning research, which will jeopardize womens health.
They explain that although the processes necessary for egg donation are hazardous in several known ways and the long-term risks are unknown the public has not been made aware of the situation.
They say, The politics of abortion has hijacked clear thinking on the issue of embryo stem cell research. In order to liberate full disclosure of the issues from the log-jam of abortion discourse, proChoice and proLife feminists from around the world joined forces to create HandsOffOurOvaries, a safe-zone in which together we draw attention to the disregard of womens lives demonstrated by the push for egg procurement.
Pelosi is no friend of the pro-life movement. It remains to be seen if she is still unconcerned with womens health even when the issue is explained by women who are firmly pro-choice or if, indeed, the politics of abortion will prevail.
The letter to Pelosi is an excellent, succinct, readable explanation of the facts hidden by the hype surrounding egg donation.
